Dogtown Ranch Rescue & Sanctuary in Hempstead is having a weather related emergency at this time. The land is low lying and the rain dumped on the area last night and this morning is flooding the dog kennels and the paddock where the horses range. Angela needs volunteers with kennels to come assist moving approx. 30+ dogs and 4-5 horses to higher ground until the flood waters recede.Funds are also needed as some animals will have to board somewhere nearby until the kennels are again usable. Please spread the word and if you can help go to the ranch with crates and muscle! Italia's Update
Italia is at Texas A&M, she was transported yesterday for an MRI this morning, the findings were not good, She has an infection under the frog of her hoof, that has spread into her bone. Her Vet at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital wants to treat her with aggressive antibiotics and hopes her other leg holds up during the treatment, Right now it looks very bad for her, but we will all keep fighting for her, we desperately need to reach our chip in goal so we can begin her treatments starting tomorrow when she returns from Texas A&M and is back at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital,

Italia, the beautiful Black, is at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital, she went lame about two weeks ago and I tried everything to make it better and everyone that knows horses looked at her and tried everything to make her better as well, but nothing any of us did made any difference, so I hauled her to the Hospital yesterday, she has lost weight and just looks miserable, and lays around not eating or barely moving.

they took x rays yesterday and ran a bunch of tests but cannot find anything, they are trying different treatments on her to see if her hoof responds and the pain begins to diminish, but as of today late, even they are baffled, and want to keep her for more tests and observation.

They wanted to do an MRI but that test is 800.00, she really looks bad and is suffering allot, she is in the best Equine Hospital in the area but if the bill is to high she will not get the treatment she needs and if she cannot get that and stays lame they will have to put her down before her other leg gives out bearing all the weight.

Please help Italia, every little bit helps!

Pure Bred Heeler

Sukitoo was found on a country road waiting for them to come back and get her, so sad, she is a PB Heeler, Blue Merle, she has had much training and we can see that she was kept inside, she is heartworm negative, she is house broke, crate trained, well mannered in the house and out, she is probably near perfect and incredibly intelligent since she is a Cattle Dog, Sukitoo gets along with all the dogs here at the Ranch, she is friendly with new people, she is a joy to be around, and how could anyone just leave this little girl on the side of a country road in beyond my comprehension, Sukitoo is spayed, micro chipped and current on all vaccinations, she is ready to go home!!! She is about 30 pounds, 1 -2 years old and loves to play and go for walks and sit and watch TV at the end of the day!

Little Billy's Story...
Billy was at a high kill shelter and out of time when we saw him. We just could not leave him behind. He is a bubbly pup still, maybe a little over a year old (09/2011), very high energy and just so happy. He wants to play, just play!

Little Billy is an amazing learner. He gets commands rapidly. But he is very high energy and needs daily stimulation to keep him happy and out of trouble! Ball throws are great as he loves to play fetch. He also loves to swim. Billy dives into the pool to retrieve every one of his toys and does not stop till the task is done. He has a kennel full of toys to keep himself amused during quiet times.

Billy would make a great search and rescue dog, agility dog, or even a dock dog as he is very attentive to his handler and needs something to do. He would also be a great running buddy.

He is probably a little too rambunctious for children under 12 and might be too much of a rough player for cats.

Little Billy is about 65 pounds and very well put together. He has a shiny black coat with pretty white markings, gorgeous brown eyes, sweet flying nun ears and a smiling face.

Billy is neutered, current on vaccinations and microchipped. A requirement for his adoption is pre-enrollment in For Bullies Only training classes sponsored by Treat Em Right Pit Bull Rescue in Houston, or in the Austin area, the Basic Obedience Course at Triple Crown Academy.

American Bulldog - Bella

This big strong girl was left at an Animal Control Facility, the family she had been with for many years just did not want her anymore, she is very sad right now but starting to get settled in here at the Ranch, she is very friendly, very well mannered, walks well on a leash, housebroken and has all the great qualities of the American Bulldog, especially the big teddy bear personality, she is a home body and minds her own buisness, and is used to being in a home. Bella is the perfect dog for any family, Bella is spayed, micro chipped and current on all vaccinations, she is also heart worm negative, about 4 years old and close to 95 lbs, she has a beautiful brindle coat and hardly sheds at all, and carries herself gracefully and with such dignity she is a joy just to watch, its unbelievable anyone could throw her away so easily. This girls heart is broken and she just wants her family back, please consider giving her a chance, even a weekend sleepover would lift her spirits!!! with approved application of course.

This is Little Mingy, she needs a big house and yard and a big family full of kids!!! Really!, She is people dog, she loves everyone, and is high energy and wants to be included in everything, and will be right there by your side including herself in everything. She is also a couch potatoe when her battery runs low and loves to cuddle in front of the TV.She is medium in size but weighs close to 50 pounds, stocky little thing, and she gets along well with big dogs, no small dogs or dogs here own size, and cats we do not know, but I would think not.Mingy is house broken, house trained, leash trained, crate trained, heart worm negative, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and about 2 -3 years old. "Belvedere" the American Staffordshire Terrier

American Staffordshire Terrier

The dog was abandoned on the streets of a desolate neighborhood to survive on his own. Food was scarce and there was no shelter. His life was very hard. But he maintained his good spirits and was always so friendly! Glad to see the volunteers who worked the feeding route, he greeted them with wagging tail. One of them could no longer stand to watch him in such dire straits. She got him in her car and took him away from his dangerous predicament. She vowed that she would restore him to health and give him the chance for a much happier life with a loving family of his very own.

Meet Belvedere. He is a good looking fella. A pit bull terrier mix, his coat is a beautiful shining black with an attractive white patch on his chest. He also has a white chin, which makes him extra appealing and unique. His large oval eyes are honey brown and he has a serious and gentle gaze. His large soft drop ears are sweet and just so cute! About 4 years old (06/2011), he is a healthy and huggable 60 lbs.

Belvedere adores people. His favorite thing is just to hang with his people. He is laid-back and easy and would make a wonderful companion for someone who would enjoy his quiet, gentlemanly ways. Very well-mannered, he is perfectly behaved around the house. He would be good company as you work, read or watch TV, as he much prefers to be inside than outside in a boring and lonely back yard. But he would not say no to daily leash walks around the neighborhood to see what he can see and get a little exercise.

One endearing trait of Belvedere’s is that he searches out one of his foster mom’s shoes and brings it out. Then he just keeps it near him but does not harm it in any way. He just wants an item of hers beside him. He so wants to belong to a special person, a person of his very own to love and get loved back. He longs for it with all his heart.

Belvedere likes other dogs, but he is not wild about the ones that are really in his face. He would appreciate a more relaxed and compatible canine companion.

Mr Scruffy was a Dogtown Ranch rescue from the winter of 2009, found in the streets going from business to business in downtown Hempstead, it was 20 degrees in the freezing rain and the day before Christmas. The Little Guy was soaked, scared and starved and looked like an old mop someone threw away, His is a true rags to riches story, he now lives in Austin Tx with one of the Fox News Team, we can't say who, and we just had to brag about his professional studio portrait that his Mom had done that will be featured in the SPCA Calender coming out next year!

Petey the Little Pit Bull !!! Is gonna be okay!!!

Little Petey has been fighting the blood disease Babesiosis for about two weeks now, he has had two blood transfusions and tons of antibiotics, and been rushed into the Vet in critical condition twice, his last trip upon coming home not only included three types of antibiotics, but liquid Iron Supplements, and change is diet to raw red meat. He is doing great.

For all of us Pit Bull People this is a scary disease, it is started by ticks and transmitted from one Pit Bull to the next from dog fights, any of us taking in new Pit Bulls with any kind of wounds from a dog fight needs to get their Pitties tested for this. It attacks their red blood cells and its downhill from there.

We are so relieved and happy to see Petey back to his old self, he is a happy, bouncy little guy that walks around all day smiling and talking.

Hobo Update!!!!!!

Hobo was found roaming the rural roads with a Pittie friend, taken in by a retired couple noticing the two had no where to go and were looking pretty wore out and starved, Hobo came to Dogtown Ranch with an old injury that left one leg nearly crippled, Texas A&M helped heal his leg and recommended therapy, he is now in a great foster home with his soon to be new forever Mom and seeing the Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists for exercises that are strengthening his leg muscles to save his leg from amputation, Patty is doing an amazing job with him and Hobo is the happiest dog in the world now and has more toys than Toys R Us!

We miss you bunches Hobi out here at the Ranch! Keep up the good work!

Baby Chance goes home!

Our Baby Chance is now living in Austin Tx with his new Mom, Jasmin! Jasmin is from Germany and a Financial Specialist in Austin, and will be taking Baby Chance back to Triple Crown Academy to further his education. Chance was found last winter on the side of the hwy in a truck parking lot curled up in a little ball scared and wet! Another happy ending!

FOR OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AMERICANS KNEW PIT BULLS FOR WHAT THEY DID BEST. BABYSITTING.

Astoundingly, for most of our history America’s nickname for Pit Bulls was “The Nanny Dog”. For generations if you had children and wanted to keep them safe you wanted a pit bull, the dog that was the most reliable of any breed with children or adults.The Nanny Dog is now vilified by a media that always wants a demon dog breed to frighten people and LHASA-APSO BITES MAN just doesn’t sell papers. Before pit bulls it was Rottweilers, before Rottweilers it was Dobermans, and before them German Shepherds. Each breed in it’s order were deemed too vicious and unpredictable to be around people. Each time people wanted laws to ban them. It is breathtakingly ironic that the spotlight has turned on the breed once the symbol of our country and our national babysitter.In temperance tests (the equivalent of how many times your kid can poke your dog in the eye before he bites him) of all breeds the most tolerant was the Golden Retriever. The second most tolerant was the pit bull.Pit Bull’s jaws do not lock, they do not have the most powerful bite among dogs (German Shepherds have that honor) they are naturally neither human or animal aggressive (in fact pit bull puppies prefer human company to their mother’s two weeks before all other dogs), and they feel as much pain as any other breed (accidentally step on one’s toe and you’ll see).The most tolerant, patient, gentle breed of dogs is now embarrassingly portrayed as the most dangerous. Petey the Little Pit Bull is safe from Ft Bend County!

This little guy is about one year old, he went straight to the Vet for a quick check up and vaccines, His back leg is crippled, the Vet said an old injury, possibly hit by a car, but not in bad shape, his little wobble makes him even more special.

So far is getting along with the dogs here he has met on a quick walk around the yards!

He is a beautiful dog!

Harley came form a kill shelter in Louisiana, and is now top 4 in his class at Triple Crown Training Academy in Austin TX! He has already achieved his Canine Good Citizen Certificate, and was adopted by his trainer, Alex Jones of Ames Iowa!
There is never a limit on what a Shelter Dog can accomplish! Harley and Alex will be working together as a team when Alex graduates and goes into professional dog training!

This little one was left in a trash heap behind a business where I found her, no, we do not take in Puppies as you can see by her accomodations, but since all the other rescues are over capacity she will be the newest addition to the Ranch. Other than a wound on one side of her little face, and the usual worms in her belly, the Vet said she is healthy, and said she is between 2 and 3 months old, so maybe she will soon grow into all the extra large stuff in her kennel! Her name is Jillie. She can use some donations and vetting support, as she will need some time to get back to her healthy little self! See donation button this page!

Dogtown Ranch Has Rescued Horses, Too!

In case you did not know, DTR has 6 horses that live here year round. Some of these horses came from other horse rescues, or from some awful situation where they were not being cared for. In the spring, 20 acres is just fine for grazing this many horses, but come winter, they have to have something else to eat! We feed them hay and horse chow, and the cost can add up to purchase enough for 3-4 months until the grass grows back. Please chip in if you can to help buy winter feed ($10-11 per bag) and hay ($75 per round bale) for the Dogtown Horses.

Italia, Baby, Tessie, Judge, Misty, and Princess will be grateful, and so will we. Thanks for your ongoing support of the Ranch.

"Honey" Female Staffie Ready for a Home!

Honey was found wandering along a country road. She was barely walking and ready to collapse when her Guardian Angels appeared and stopped to help her. They rushed her to the Vet, and found to suffer from the usual maladies of stray dogs; mange, skin conditions, and starvation. She had been shot as well, she had taken a hit to her hip, but all fragments were removed and all she has left is a small scar. Her weight is back on, her coat shines and her spirit is soaring. She is a lucky dog. Honey is ready for a home and a family that will love her and never allow this to happen to her again. She gets along with all the dogs here, she is housebroken, likes children, and is happy all the time. She is great inside and is where she now lives here at the Ranch. Honey is spayed, current on all vaccinations and will be micro chipped prior to going home.She is currently housed at Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary in Hempstead, Tx. Contact us to meet or ask about Honey.

Austin Area Rescue Damaged by Fire- Help needed !

"Munch" is one of 9 dogs that has been misplaced by a fire at the home of one of our sister rescues in Kyle (Austin), TX. The animals are ok, but their home is gone forever. Meanwhile, these dogs are being boarded at a vet clinic. Funds are needed to keep them there while a new place is found for them. They are adoptable, neutered, wormed and current on all vaccinations. Pilgrim Gets New Home in Time for Christmas

This is formerly "Mr. Peanut" with his new family out of state! We hear he is a very protective, but very loving addition to this home with three small kids and a cat. Mr. Peanut was a temporary guest at the Ranch until this nice family saw him and wanted him to join them as their new member.

It is always so nice to hear from the families that adopt dogs we know. We love to know that they are well, they are in a good place, and they are adding love to the families that gave them a chance. Be a good boy, Pilgrim, we are proud to know you!

A Christmas Story / Foster a BARC Dog for the Holidays

The first time I saw Molly, she was laying on a cold steel step having her picture taken at the city of Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care, also known as BARC.
She looked like she had just been plucked right out of a Disney movie. She was a large dog at 55 pounds and listed as a Wheaten Terrier and Chow mix. She had two coal black eyes that looked out of a tousled mange of dirty blond hair.

As a BARC volunteer I had come to the shelter to request to take a dog to Petco for a free grooming being offered by the store. She was listed as a cruelty case, and I wondered how someone could be cruel to this Disney dog. Two days earlier she had been tied to the chain link fence outside the BARC building and abandoned. I imagined how she must have felt watching her owners drive away and wondering when they were going to return.

From her kennel calluses, it was apparent she had spent most of her life on a hard concrete floor probably without care. The Petco groomer worked miracles, but at BARC it became obvious she was headed for a euthanasia list because of an eye infection. An infection, no matter how small can be grounds for having an animal euthanized, while the main reason is overcrowding at BARC. There simply is not enough kennel space or fosters to take them.

I had not planned on fostering a dog but nor could I drive away from BARC knowing Molly would be euthanized before I reached my house. Over the course of the next four weeks I took her to four different adoption events as well as three different vets.

Although a blood test revealed she was relatively healthy, she scratched consistently. One of the vets confirmed either food or pollen allergies or both, so a strict diet, medicine and hypoallergenic baths were prescribed.

But it was the vet’s words that kept haunting me. She said that finding a good home for a senior dog, aged 8-10, would be a challenge. I spent long nights wondering if I could find her a good home.

Being a foster has its challenges. There are the unexpected, non-reimbursable costs — the constant trips to the store for dog food, the vet costs and the medicines. Not to mention the time and gas spent going to adoption events. But I was determined.

She was becoming very attached to me, and I realized I was probably the first real home she had ever had, the first person who was falling in love with her and the first person that really cared about her well-being and future. I owed her a good life and I prayed for the ideal family or person to come forward and give her a chance.

And then it happened on a Saturday afternoon at a Galleria adoption event. A family was looking for a dog that does not shed because the wife had allergies. What an irony because Molly also had allergies. This family lived on a large piece of land in the heart of Bellaire and had plenty of space for a big dog to run. It was as if the Disney dog stepped into a Disney movie.

From the day she had been tied to a chain link fence to the day she found her “furever” home with a wonderful family and a beautiful home seemed against all odds. I may be lighter in the wallet but it was money well spent. She brought me joy and showed me the benefits that fostering a dog can bring. I knew our time was temporary and although I was sad to see her leave me, I was also happy for her and her Disney storybook tail.

My sadness won’t last long because there is always another “Molly” waiting in a small, cold kennel, waiting for a foster to come get them. The shelters and rescues in Houston rely on fosters to keep the euthanasia rate low. The largest obstacle shelters and rescues face is they are constantly at over capacity and then the heavy decision has to be made; what animal will live to see another day and what animal will not.

My wish for Christmas is that everyone will consider fostering a dog or cat. You will literally save a life and when that adoption finally comes, and it will, the satisfaction and happiness it brings will carry you on a high for days and you will not regret your decision to make a difference in the life of a dog or a cat.

For me I have the satisfaction of knowing that my BARC foster dog, my Molly, will be spending her first true Christmas in a nice warm bed, in a comfortable home, surrounded by a family who love her for the rest of her life. And isn’t that how all Disney stories should end for dogs and cats looking for their own “furever” home.

Wind Beneath Our Wings- Harley's Journey

The Ranch has the honor of having a special guest here for the Holidays, "Pilots N Paws" flew into the Brenham Airport last night, bringing a special little boy needing a place to stay for the Holidays. He is headed to a new home in New Mexico, having gotten out of a Louisiana Kill Shelter. Because of the holidays, the only transport available now was to Texas, so we agreed to keep him here for a couple weeks! Just in time for Christmas!!!!!!!
Harley is a German Shepherd mix, a special and lucky dog, and the sweetest guy ever. Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary is thrilled to be a part of his journey and transition into a new home and life! Ariel on the Mend

Look at Ariel!

It is hard to believe this is the same dog that was trapped at BARC, hours away from being euthanized because she was so sick. When she arrived at the Ranch, she was too weak to stand up, and for days was too afraid to come out of her dog house to eat while people were standing there...

Her sponsor has been to see her several times, and boy are we all pleased at how well Ariel is looking! She has gained a lot of weight, she is getting stronger every day, and more trusting with the Dogtown staff and visitors. We hope that she will eventually go home a new dog, with her health and her whole life ahead of her with a loving family.

All these dogs need is a lot of love, some vet care, and someone who cares to help them heal! Join us in saluting Ariel, and the folks who sponsor her recuperation at the Dogtown Ranch! Well done, everybody!

Oh you should see Oreo! The Dogtown crew went to visit her at Triple Crown Academy in Austin, where she will graduate on Dec.10. She is doing great in school and is known around there as "Happy" as these photos will show. She has gotten bigger and had a great day. She met her new family, from Corpus Christi, who drove up to meet her and give her some presents. She played with some of her Dogtown buddies, and even had a reunion with little Angel, who now lives in Austin with her new dad.

Oreo is the perfect example of a miraculous change in fate, for a little dog that was dumped, ended up in a local pound, and was to be euthanized because of her breed. That would have been a terrible waste, and is what thousands of pit bulls and their families face if the Texas ban on pit bulls is passed in the State legislature. PIT BULL BAN LEGISLATION BEING PRESENTED TODAY!!!

Dear [Senator Eltife or Representative Hopson],

I have heard that you have been recently presented with a piece of legislation that proposes a pit bull ban in Texas. Please do not accept, or agree to file, this proposal. Breed-specific legislation and breed bans are a detriment to public safety and have been shown to be not only unenforceable but also ineffective in limiting dog bites among the public. They are also discriminatory, inhumane, unenforceable, and unethical.

Texas state law is more than adequate for dealing with dog bites. If any legislation needs be proposed it should be that of responsible ownership of our canine companions that restricts practices such as chaining which have been proven to be detrimental and not conducive to proper canine social behavior. Dog bites are easily preventable with fair, enforceable, breed-neutral laws and sufficient citizen education and resources. I urge you to take a closer look at each of the recent media covered pit bull incidents and analyze the situation to determine if you feel the dogs were in the care of a responsible pet owner? These issues are frankly a people problem, not a dog problem.

Though there have been two separate incidents in as many weeks, it is important that we do not over react to what is nothing more than negligence on behalf of pet owners. Doing so would determine the fate of hundreds of thousands if not millions of loving family pets, service dogs, therapy dogs, and canine good citizens simply because of how they look and the behavior of a few which was allowed by irresponsible owners.

Simply take a look at the front page of the local KLTV news website dated 11/12/2010 for a little perspective on the situation. The first headlines one sees are "E. Texas Man Killed by Pet Deer “, ” Lufkin woman dies in one car wreck" and "Domestic argument to leads to shooting in Tyler". Based on the logic of the presenters of the pit bull ban legislation we should also consider banning deer, cars, and guns because they are all obviously dangerous.

Please consider this perspective when presented with the pit bull ban legislation and make no decision in haste.

Ariel's Guardian Angels

Lucky, lucky Ariel! She has two wonderful guardian angels, " J" and "N". These two warm-hearted ladies took one look at Ariel and knew they had to help... Thanks to their generous donations, Ariel has had her first visit to the Veterinarian to get her exam, and skin condition treated. She is on medication and a special diet to help boost her health and she is already showing a much brighter look in her eyes, she wags her tail when we come to feed her, she even wandered about a few minutes in the sun today! She was so ill when she came in, her legs shook while she stood up to eat. She is getting stronger and braver every day!

See her updated photos from today... she is more filled out, not dehydrated any more, and sat in the sun for a few minutes! She is still more comfortable inside her kennel, but she comes out of the house now and seems to feel much, much better. There is no telling what she has been through, but all that is over now and she will be treated with more love and tenderness than she has in her whole entire life! Her guardian angels still want to be a part of her life and will be coming out to pet her and bring her presents, such as toys and new blankets! This is the true meaning of rescue. The rescue process does not stop when the dogs come to sanctuary...they need love and care until they can be adopted to permanent, carefully screened homes! Thanks to Ariel's two guardian angels for coming to her rescue. You have saved a very special dog!

Please Help Ariel...A BARC rescue

This poor little girl was pulled from BARC, City of Houston, late yesterday. We had no idea how bad of shape she was in, they had her listed as a depressed Shar Pei mix, which is not the case at all, she is so starved her skin hangs on her frail frame. She has been badly abused and has given up, we have to carry her whenever we need to move her, she curls up in a tight ball and becomes stiff, she is in horrible condition, she is high positive for heart worms, and of course her skin and coat are destroyed. She struggled to get up last night when she saw food only after we left her kennel, and her legs shook as she ate. As soon as we walk in, she goes down on the floor and hides her head.

We need to get her into our Vet, we have so many special needs dogs right now, we are overwhelmed, please donate anything you can for her, you can call the Clinic directly

Ranch Truck is Fixed!!!

I don't have a photo of the actual ranch truck, but thanks to our GENEROUS supporters we have gotten the truck FIXED! Donors raised $1400 and we were able to get the repairs done for that amount! We cannot thank you enough, the truck makes it possible for us to rescue and feed all these Dogtown animals. We hope you have as many blessings this holiday as we have had from you throughout 2010. "Baby Chance" Male Lab Mix

This beautiful baby boy was found curled up in a ball off the side of hwy 6 in the middle of nowhere in the rain, only a factory was close by. It was hard to imagine that sight even being real, but there he was, wet and scared, and despite his ordeal he is a bouncy happy pup, about 6 mos old. He gets along with all the dogs, he is crate trained, he is leash trained, he likes to ride in the car and is well behaved, we have yet to hear him bark. He was not starved or injured, he is in perfect health, and is now current on his vaccinations and will be neutered prior to adoption. Baby Chance is very well mannered and well behaved, he must have come from a home recently and was found just in time, but was wearing no tags or is micro chipped so there is no way we can find his home again, with the recent out pour of family pets being left in the streets to fend for themselves we have to assume this is also the case. This little boy needs a family that will love him no matter what. Baby Chance is being housed at The Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary in Hempstead Tx

"Ciabatta" the American Pit Bull Terrier

This is beautiful Cia, she was found in Houston in the middle of the street! She is a stocky, bubbly little ball of energy and happiness, she smiles and talks with her eyes, she is so expressive, and will listen to you intently ramble on and on about anything, she just wants to be with a person. She walks well on a leash, she sits, stays, gently takes treats out of your hand, will come when called, is crate trained, spayed and current on all her vaccinations. Cia is a classic American Pit Bull, she will need to be with a strong handler that knows the breed and that is capable of bringing out the best in her, she is very willing to learn new things and loves to be worked with, her accomplishments could be unlimited with the right owner. We are beginning to work with her around new dogs, as she was scared and unsure of herself when she first came in, she is doing well, and disregards the barks and commotion from the other residents. But for now should be the only dog
If you think you can handle a beautiful bundle of energy, Cia would love to be your best friend. Cia is about 70 pounds and aprox 2 to 3 years old.

One of our sister-rescue's Smiling Dog Farms, has suffered a tragedy today from the rainstorms that blew through here last night. Two of their beloved sanctuary animals were killed by a lightening strike when they tried to take shelter under a tree during the storm. Great News! Missy has a Foster Home!

Thanks to a kind woman from Dallas, Missy has a foster home! If you will remember, she was surrendered to the Ranch from her home of EIGHT YEARS due to new behavior problems that stemmed from the birth of a new human child in her home. The owners chose to give Missy up rather than work it out. Missy cried for weeks, she was so used to being inside, with a family and the only dog in the home. After a plea for a foster home, Missy went to live with a great, big hearted family who will treat her like a member of the family until a permanent home can be found! Bless you Dallas family! "Oreo Cookie" Goes to School!

Another great story, "Oreo goes to School"! We were so fortunate to have a premier, nationally renowned canine school "Triple Crown Dog Academy", ask us for an "unmannered" dog so they can train their dog trainers this Fall. This is an honor as there are many rescues around, and these openings are rare. We immediately thought of Oreo. She is a young (1 yr) pit bull mix, who is delightful and happy most of the time, but... she is the noisiest, peskiest (to the other dogs), and non-trainedest dog we had at the Ranch. Just the right kind of dog Triple Crown was looking for! What a miracle! So we packed Oreo's bags, put her in the car, and drove her to Hutto, TX (just outside of Austin) to be a resident and trainee for 54 days! There is just nothing wrong about this situation. She was glad for the car ride, and took to the staff at Triple Crown right away! The staff all fawned over her (she is really cute) and she went off to the doggie dorms. We hear that the traininers usually fall in love with their trainees and adopt them. We would miss Oreo, but that is what we want for her, a new forever home and a good life. Little "Angel" is Home Sweet Home!

I "double-dog" dare you to have dry eyes at the end of THIS little girl's story! Little Angel was rescued right before Hurricane Ike from an animal shelter where she was labeled as "unadoptable" because of trauma she endured when she was a pup. DTR took her in, as we believe no dog is "unadoptable" or beyond hope. Angel has lived here for two years, making friends and being well-cared for and socialized. She is one of the quietest, calmest dogs you would want to know, but she has an inner sadness that made our hearts melt.

Well, this Saturday, October 17, little Angel found her forever home with a longtime Ranch supporter, Mr. CW. I delivered her myself, she sat in the car for the 2 hour ride to Austin, in the passenger seat, staring at me. She was not sure what was going on, but when she saw her new dad, she walked right up to him. As soon as I handed him her lead, she began walking towards his car. She had met him once before, and it seemed like she remembered him. She never looked back! The report we have from her new dad is that she has staked out "her" spot on the couch, which happens to be right next to the cats. Angel and the cat sleep together and sit together.

This is one of those stories that reminds us that there is no dog that cannot be rehabilitated, unless there are extreme dire circumstances. And even then, like little Angel, she can still wait til the perfect person comes along, and she walks right into their lives like she has been there all along. We will miss this perfect Angel, but know she is finally in her place. Don't give up on them just because of their breed!

We will miss her dearly as she is one of the cutest, sweetest, and prettiest girls on the place! She has a problem with her front paws that makes her walk like she is "goose-stepping", and she has the cutest little trot. I spent some time last weekend hanging out with her, but she is going to a great new home with a long-time Ranch supporter. Take care of our little Angel, Mr. C, she is special!

"Jake", Male Rottie/ Shepherd Mix

Jake is a big boy that has been through hell, he was a ranch dog all of his life until the ranch he lived on since he was a pup went into foreclosure. His owners left! They placed some of his friends but Jake was left behind with an old ranch hand to fend for himself, soon his last friend had to leave also and Jake found himself by then, emaciated, alone, sick, and too weak to even walk. He was brought to Dogtown Ranch just in time.

Jake is a big teddy bear and a sweet boy, he sometimes limps from an old injury to his back leg that was never treated, he is still putting on weight, and finally has a healthy appetite again. He smiles! He dances when he sees you! And the light in his eyes becomes brighter each day. We are honored to give this old warrior a new life, and will ensure he has many more years ahead. Jake is only about 5 years old! So sad to have been through so much and still be so young. We feel he is ready to go to a new home and certainly deserves a family that will love him and never leave him.

Jake is well mannered, good around other dogs, horses and cattle and good on leash. Jake is heart worm positive but has no symptoms and the Vet said keeping him on monthly prevention will eventually rid the infestation in his heart. Jake is a gentle giant of a dog with a strong spirit and a story in his eyes. Please consider giving Jake the best years of his life! he is a great dog and will make an even better friend.

"Hope", Female Staffordshire Mix

Hope has a long sad story, she was discovered by rescue at animal control a few days before Hurricane Ike. Since they were needing to evacuate the shelters for the storm, and being so thin and anemic she was going to be euthanized. So begins her journey into the rescue world, she was pulled by a rescue that took in Pit Bulls that went very bad, and Hope was reduced to living in a filthy pen outside with other dogs, she had to fight daily for food and her own space and respect. Soon other groups saw what was going on and all the dogs were removed, Hope was last to go, but not before her mate and only friend was killed by being bitten several times by a poisonous snake, his body was not found till later in the day. Hope went to live in a house with a great lady that loved her a lot, but soon became ill and could not care for her. She then saw life from the inside of a crate till we had space to bring her here, now she is here at the Sanctuary in a happy environment with new friends and play times and lots of food and care.

Hope is great in the house, she loves the couch, she loves being with her person and follows you all over and stays by your side, she hardly barks. Hope has had a horrible life, even though her ears were cut off with scissors and her body was badly scared, she has recovered and is very healthy and happy again. But really needs a home where she will be loved unconditionally and made to feel secure. She bonds quickly with people and just wants to finally go home. She has no problems from any of the bad things she has endured, and we know nothing of her past or how she ended up in the pound. She gets along with the other dogs, as long as they show her no signs of aggression, she loves to run and play in the grass and is very obedient when called, and great on leash, Hope would make a great companion and a wonderful addition to any family. Petco VS Texas Shootout...

Those dang Cowboys and Texans!

Due to the game (I am sure) Westchase Petco was a desert wasteland this past Sunday! Hobo, and Indian, and Chrissy got all dressed up, and visited with a few pet-lovers who forwent the game, or ran out at halftime and picked up their pet supplies, but there was nowhere near the crowd we had the first weekend! Store manager Jennifer said "My store is NEVER like this," and we believe her. But we did take in some donations for Hobo's medication bill, and the doggies got an outing out of it! The next scheduled Petco appearance is October 9, so if you can help out, please let us know and we will put you down as a vounteer handler. The event is from 11am to 3pm and is indoors, so there is no sweating involved, and you get to talk to people about dogs... one of my favorite topics! Thanks to the visitors who stopped by to see us, and thanks to Petco for the space!

Max the newest Austinite!

Our beautiful Maxie has found a home! He is our 70 lb bully mix with the sweetest disposition ever. He found a wonderful home in Austin and is living with his new brother Joey, who was also adopted from Houston. We wish Joey, Max, and his new family all the best in the world. There is no better feeling that placing a sweet, lovable dog with a loving family. To our Maxie, long life and happiness!

Bozo lands in Sweeney!

And how do we say goodbye to Bozo? He is our silly-mud dog Argentinian Mastiff mix, he was the most playful, easygoing, funniest resident. He is abt 4 yrs old and came to us from Los Angeles, where he was found living at an abandoned house. It has been a privilege to work with Bozo and have a small part in his care. His new family lives in Sweeney, TX and has more than enough room in their hearts for this big hunk of playfulness! We will miss you, Bozie! Write to us or text us sometime! Lots of loveXOXOX

Rain, Rain, Go Away!!!

OK, so Bozo LOVES the mud. That makes one of us!

We recently bought three truckloads of builder's sand to raise the back play yard about 6 inches! That was easy enough, but then we had to move it around, because the dump truck could not get close enough to the yard without sinking into the mud its own self! So, we got out the shovels and "wheel barrah's", as we say in Texas, and packed that dirt on over to the play yard. Or we are still working on it.

That's the good news. The not-so-good news is that adoptions and donations are down this month. We need to keep replacing the funds that we use, for vet fees, food, medicine, etc. (and dirt)!

How about a fund drive? Please see the donation link on the home webpage, and sign up to make a small monthly donation! Even $5 per month adds up, if we get 100 people to do it! $500 will pay for 35 large bags of food, or 50 rabies shots, or 10 boxes of flea treatment, or 25 bags of horse feed.

Ohmigosh! Petco Event was a Smash Hit!

Wow, we did not expect such a big crowd on a Sunday, opening day for NFL regular season, but we had a great day at Petco, all dogs were looked over, carried, walked, swooned over and almost fought over, and in the end, everyone was pooped! We want to thank Jennifer Wonish and the staff at the Wilcrest Petco for inviting us and allowing us to take over the front part of their store!

We were able to meet a lot of animal lovers and the doggies got to meet some more doggies. Several applications were handed out and we hope to get some dogs adopted from this event. Petco provided us with some swag; frisbees, bandanas, and as many treats as the pups could eat. It is events like these that assist rescues in educating the public and raising awareness to the plight of homless, abandoned, and abused animals. There is no need for the problem to get worse, if we all work together to help control the animal population and take care of the animals that are already here.

Please support Petco for supporting us and all rescues that they assist through store events like these, and the Petco foundation that provides grants for shelters in need. We plan to be at this store twice a month, so contact us to help volunteer or to come by and say hello! Thanks and enjoy the photos, and remember to support rescue dogs everywhere!

We are getting all gussied up to be at our first Petco Adoption appearance at the Wilcrest and Westheimer store on Sept 12, 2010!

We hope to make this a bi-weekly event, so we can get some of these doggies out in front of the public, to see how nice and well-behaved and adoptable they are! . "Frank" the English Bulldog Mix

If you are looking for a loveable couch potato, Frank is your boy! Every once and a while he does get energetic and wants to play fetch. It doesn't usually last too long though! He is fantastic on the leash. He never pulls and stays right at your side the whole time. He is very smart; he knows sit, stay, come, and down. He is completely potty trained and crate trained. He is very quiet, rarely barks and is even good with cats! Oh, Frank is also a fantastic kisser and cuddler, but watch out because he might just lick you to death! Frank was found by a nice couple in Houston in December right before it got really cold. They were kind enough to offer him food and a bed in their garden. They could not keep him however and were afraid that if they took him to a shelter that he would be euthanized. A very kind hearted mail man decided to take him home and foster him. As soon as the foster mommy saw him, he was dubbed the name Frank because he really looks like a Frank! From the looks of him, Frank has had a tough life on the streets. He was very underweight; both of his eyes were infected and also had a skin infection on his legs. To top that off the vet also said that Frank has old knee injuries from being hit by a car. It doesn't bother Frank though, he gets around just fine he just sits a little funny. It just adds to his wonderful personality. His eye infection was due to having entropion and a cherry eye. Entropion is the inward rolling of the eyelid, the hair on the affected lid continuously rubs against the cornea. This can cause significant discomfort and trauma to the cornea. His eyes were constantly watering and must have been causing him a lot of discomfort but don't tell Frank that, he was still a very happy dog! Frank has had surgery to correct his entropion and is much better. While having surgery for the entropion the vet did try and repair the cherry eye, but it didn't work. Having the cherry eye for so long has caused him to have dry eye, so he will need to have daily eye drops to treat it. Frank has the most loving eyes, when he looks at you with those eyes it is almost like he is saying thank you for saving me. He is so appreciative and doesn't ask for much, just somebody to love him. His foster parents would love to keep him but they already have 3 dogs and 4 cats living in a small home. He deserves to have a family of his own that can spoil him rotten. Frank would do great as an only dog, as he prefers to be with his people more than other dogs. Frank is currently heartworm positive, but is in the process of being treated. Frank is looking for that special someone that will show him what it feels like to be loved and cherished forever. Are you that special someone? Hi all- it has been a busy couple of weeks, so let me catch you guys up on what is happening! The garage sales have been a great success, as a matter of fact, we are going to try to have several more, so please keep spreading the word that we need donated items! We made about $900 on three sales, and that just covered the vet bill for the summer... but we were so glad to have the donated items, and we could not have done it without our supporters, and fairy dogmothers and dogfathers!

We are going to start our Petco Adoption appearances at the Wilcrest and Westheimer store on Sept 12, 2010! We have had a run on adoptions lately... Sarah was adopted to a great family in Crosby, TX who is SO happy with her! Trixie was just adopted also, she is a sweet and beautiful lab mix that we knew would get adopted quickly. Tommy was adopted in August, our Bulldog mix and he is a special boy who has all our hearts. Baby Shiloh was adopted by another rescuer after she stole his heart, and speaking of hearts, she is now heartworm NEGATIVE! Yeah Shiloh! Such a sweet beautiful girl with a new, doting daddy. She was so sick when she got here we did not know if she was going to live too long.

We also got 3 new residents, who have no home to go to right now... Oreo cookie is a dynamic, bouncy, live wire of a puppy who needs an owner who can run her silly! She needs some training, as she does as she pleases much of the time, but she is friendly and plays well with other dogs. Hope is another special girl who is a sweet and beautiful mix who needs a loving home. She is calm and pretty and loves people. Someone cropped her ears in the worst way, but other than that she is perfect! And Frank is now looking for a foster/forever home. He is our English bulldog mix who has some eye and hip issues, but he is young and with treatment he will live a long happy life.

Winter Prep Time!
We are getting ready for winter in Hempstead, TX! That means rain, cold, and no pasture for horses... so, our wish list is building up. If you can help, or know someone who can, point them in our direction:

Homeless Dog, Jake needs Vet Care

Jake is another sad story coming out of this horrible economy, he came in starved just for starters, he has symptoms of being high heart worm positive and has an injured back leg that appears to have healed wrong and gone without care, Jake's owner is homeless and after seeing the condition of his dog, the only thing for us to do was to convince him to let us take Jake into the Sanctuary for care and rehabilitation.

Please help Us help Jake, He is a beautiful dog with a great personality, Jake will stay here at the Ranch till he is well again and untill his owner can secure a place for both of them to live.

Tigger's Sweet and Happy Story

Tigger is a resident that lived with Angela for about 2 years. She was seen getting thrown from a moving truck onto the side of the road, she was fortunately not hurt, just scared! She is very sweet, very energetic, friendly, and very pretty, and goofy dog. About a month ago, Tigger went to live at her new forever home. Her new dad sent us this email and photos of her, she is doing great and we are SO PROUD of her.... some of these stores DO end happily!

Thought you'd like to see a few pictures of Tigger with her new beginning so far... She's been super, and is a good learner, knows the shake paw and wave already and is very very well behaved on walks, that really surprised me being a kenneled dog...at the dog parks, I went once with her on leash first, then the second one I went off leash and she never goes more than 15-20 feet away from me, she knows to stay near, and never gets into any mischief with other dogs... She has good tolerance and is very dedicated to her owner. And She loves the car rides more than anything, I've never seen such a well behaved dog in a car in my life! We've been to Petsmart like 15 times already and the dog park about 8 times...she loves it. I'm glad she was taken care of until I got her a new home...I've been really happy with her, thanks again for the opportunity to give her a good home. Tim

Trooper Update: Needs Surgery

Update on Trooper: Long time resident and play yard Captain is suffering from a Spinal Degeneration. We found him last week standing in the middle of his play yard screaming in pain unable to move, we rushed him to the Vet and xrays show two lower disks rubbing against each other. He is made comfortable by Adequan injections weekly but his condition can be fixed by Texas A&M thru the Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham with a surgery where they will inject a filler between the disks. This surgery will cost $1000-2500.

Trooper was thought to be about 6 or 7, but he is actually 9 or 10 with many good years ahead of him, and a perfect candidate for this surgery. Please see his before and after photos, its heartbreaking to see him crumble and look so lost and weak, we need to get him back up and running and back to patrolling his play yard where he is happy. Please donate anything you can, we can only keep this place going and keep rehabilitating homeless unwanted dogs on donations and public support.

Chance, Rest in Peace 2010

We lost Chance this morning, despite a tough fight, his illness was too much for him. We will miss him dearly, as he was one of the sweetest dogs on the ranch. He came down with two problems at the same time, and despite heroic efforts by the Washington County Animal Clinic, he did not make it. Chance was one of the Ranch's permanent residents, who was rescued from a Houston freeway with two other siblings.

One of the Dogtown supporters had this to say about Chance..."I am so sorry for your loss. I couldnt stop crying... What a great dog. I had been looking forward to getting to know him more, and being with him more... He had a special place in my heart, I will miss him. I know your heart is broken. I cant believe he is gone, God bless that dog. Im sorry I missed his funeral. He seemed so healthy. I imagine that some of the other dogs in his yard are missing him. I am just thankful that you were able to give him the best part of his life. He was blessed because of you. "

Meet "Goobies", American Bulldog

Goobies is ready for her forever home now. She smiles all the time now, she is a happy girl. Now about 90 pounds, she was found on the Houston Streets in real bad shape, but has since been in rehab and is back to being herself. She is a roly-poly teddy bear, she rarely barks and likes to lay at your feet and follow you around, prancing lightly behind you. Goobies was so starved her x rays showed her kidneys had even moved, but she shows no after effects of the neglect and is probably a little overweight. She is housebroken, leash trained, crate trained, spayed, microchipped and current on all vaccinations. She is heart worm positive but is being treated with monthly heartworm prevention that will kill off the disease in about a year. She is doing great, and gets along with other dogs, but an intro would be needed. She is currently housed at Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary in Hempstead Tx. Contact us to meet this sweet, strong girl!

Update 11/14/2010

Goobies is still doing great here at the Ranch, she has put on a little weight, but she is warm and cozy in her new hoodie! She is almost completely through with her heartworm treatment and is the sweetest most lovable dog you can want to meet. She is low profile and low maintenance. You will love her like a favorite arm chair. She has to go to a very special home because we all hold her dear and want to be sure that she continues to be spoiled in the manner in which she has become accustomed. ADOPTED!!! "Shiloh", Pit Bull Mix

Happy Days for Shiloh! She has found a forever home with a brother rescuer in Austin, TX. We are so glad, because Shiloh has won the hearts of everyone who has met her.

She was originally rescued from the streets in a very bad part of Houston. She had no hair at all when she was found, because she had rashes and had been in the streets so long with no food or shelter. She was so malnourished that her little bones were starting to bend. She will make full recovery and her spirit is AMAZING! She is very sweet and loves everyone, dog and human alike. We will miss her but knowing she goes to a great dog lover makes us very proud of her! So long, Shiloh! Write us sometime!

Update on Trooper- Degenerative Joint Disease

Poor Trooper! It turns out he has degenerative joint disease, in his spine. He is around 10 years old and this happens to older, large dogs, apparently. The vet wants to treat him with steroid injections and oral meds that are expensive. He is staying overnite to give the steroid shots a chance to start working. So far the bill is $500.00.

It seems just when we get caught up, another expense pops up. If you can, please help with a donation for Trooper's vet bills. He is a good boy, and we want to keep him comfortable. We are having the garage sale Aug. 28 to raise some funds, but til then, we need assistance. Thanks for your support. Trooper Needs a Vet

A strange thing is happening with Trooper and he needs to get to the vet. One day he was seen dragging himself on the ground, unable to move his back legs. Angela tried to check him out, to see if he hurt his back, but he cried when she touched him, and could not stand. We are taking him to the Washington County Vet Clinic tomorrow, but we don't know what kind of treatment he will need. If you are able, please make a donation now to help with his vet bills. "Bravo" the Golden Retriever Mix (Adoptable)

Bravo is a sweet, playful pup, he is about 8 months old, he is eager to learn and great with other dogs and people. He was rescued by a lady when he was just a puppy, freezing and crying in the yard of an abandoned house. He was sick, but survived and she named him Bravo because he had been through so much. She found an elderly man who took him in, but could not keep him once he got bigger and stronger.

He has been in two foster homes by emergency, but now resides at Dogtown Ranch. He needs some training, but he is a sweet dog. He is a little shy when you first meet him, but becomes your friend effortlessly soon after. He would be great in a home with a family that has children. "Snoopy" the American Stafforshire Terrier Mix (Adopable)

Snoopy's old home was with a family that beat him and left him in a back yard all the time. Then the family went into foreclosure and moved out, without Snoopy. The neighbors contacted us and gave us his history and told us he needed help. Poor Snoopy has been in recovery for almost a year now, he wouldn't get off the floor if someone approached him, if he saw someone holding something in their hand he slithered away on his belly, we couldn't give him hugs or kisses for at least 6 months. If you raised your arm he was terrified. But Snoopy is not that dog anymore, his self esteem and confidence are back, he is no longer afraid and welcomes everyone with smiles and tail wags, he gets along with all the other dogs, and shares his food and his house. And he is just beautiful, his coat is ebony and shines and shines. Snoopy is back to being a happy puppy again and is ready for a family that will treat him with love and respect. he is neutered, heartworm negative, current on all vaccines, and crate trained and well mannered in the house, his medium but probably weighs in at around 60 -70 pounds, he is stocky, full grown, about 2 years old. His recovery was made possible by Mugsy's Fund and the Staff at Alvin Animal Clinic who worked with him constantly and would not give up on him.

"Spanky" the Australian Kelpie Mix (Adoptable)

Spanky was found roaming the streets in a very bad part of Houston by Corridor Rescue Group, we think that is a scar from a burn or a bad scrap over his eye, he has another one on his body, he loves to have friends, and in the pool is where he is usually found! Very smart little guy, but still kinda shy, he also needs a foster home so he can learn more about trust and learn that he won't ever be hurt again. Runtski is not so much the little runt anymore but the name just stuck. Sshe came from New Orleans, probably a descendent of the dogs misplaced by Hurricane Katrina. She was found wandering the streets. She gets along with all the dogs, and loves people, she is a happy little girl, and always comes running with smiles and tail wagging when she sees you. She is housebroken, crate trained, and is learning basic commands. Very smart and picks up new things almost immediately, she wants her own family very much and tries to make new friends every chance she gets. "Puppy Chow" the Adopatable Bull Terrier/Lab Mix

Puppy Chow was found dumped outside of the Houston Humane Society as a small pup, she was taken inside by a good Samaritan and was told that they would keep her for 3 days and then have her euthanized because she was a Bull Terrier mix. She looks more lab than anything else and she has been in a foster home for over a year now. Its sad, she is crate trained, obedient, and well mannered, she just adores kids, and will get to spend time in the neighbors' yard to play with their 8 year old. She is great in the house and would love a family with children, she sleeps on the end of the bed in a little ball, and always looks so lonely, She loves to go on outings and adoption events, even though she gets car sick. This is the Princess of the Sanctuary! She is an amazing girl full of personality. She is about 3 years old, not a pup, and must have been someones family dog by the way she knows sit, stay, lets go, come, and loves to ride in the car and watch out the window, and comes inside and makes herself comfortable, and is housebroken. She gets along with all the dogs, and she loves people. Princess was dumped on the side of the road with her one pup in front of someones' house that could not take her in. We welcome Indian Girl from Los Angeles, California. She was abandoned behind a foreclosure with 5 others. She is very friendly and enjoys her new life here out at the Ranch where she can run and play with friends that aren't on chains. She is crate trained, housebroken, current on all vaccines, micro chipped and spayed, she also has an extensive evaluation report that came with her paperwork from LA that tells us a lot about her personality and temperament, and she passed all the requirements with flying colors.She is always happy, and she is also very obedient, she is short and stocky and very strong, she is still so excited to be free she forgets there is a person at the other end of her leash, so she needs some practice in walking. She has been great in the house, and likes toys as big as she is, too funny, no matter what kong toys she is given, what she enjoys most is wrestling with a plastic water bucket. It is new to her to have a person to follow around and play with, she will make a loyal friend, and a fun loving family dog. She is about 2 years old.

"Faith" the adoptable American Staffordshire Terrier

This is Faith, she is very beautiful, she was found crawling away on the side of the highway with two broken front legs. She spent two months in the hospital, and came home with one leg is a little bit crooked but is healed completely, and she runs and functions on it 100%. She is very sweet with people and kids she welcomes everyone. She will get along with a submissive male dog only, she was once placed with a male who was an abuse case sent to us from SC and she protected him, and was very good to him, and they even slept in the same Igloo.

Faith is ready for her own family and home, she is well behaved in the house, and well behaved in general as she is about 3 or 4 years old. She would do well in a home with adults and very little commotion as she has probably had a life full of turmoil. She is current on her vaccines, HW negative, spayed and microchipped. She is an American Staffordshire Terrier, which means she is larger in size than the typical Staffordshire Terrier, that range about 40 to 55 pounds. Tigger Finds a Home!

We had to say "so long" to Tigger last week, she is a 2 year old terrier mix who was seen getting thrown from a moving truck onto the side of the road, she was fortunately not hurt, just scared. She is very sweet, very energetic, friendly, and very pretty, and most of the time a little goofball. Someone fell in love with her and came and picked her up over the weekend. Although we miss our adoptees terribly, we know that they are going to good homes, and they are going to be loved and cared for as they deserve. We wish Tigger and her new family all the best!

"Brody" the male Staffordshire Terrier

Brody is a stunning Boy, he has been thru a lot. He was suffering with pneumonia and severe heart worms when he came here, he was with people that did not take very good care of him. They left him in a pen and let other dogs beat up on him, He didn't fight back because he was too sick. He has come a long way since then! His health is back, and so is his self esteem and self confidence. He loves people, he loves to ride in the car, he loves just to lay at your side knowing he is safe and loved. He is good with smaller dogs and females and even pups. At times he can feel intimidated by males that can be too assuming. Brody can get scared and remember the bad times around male dogs that are too pushy. Brody is housebroken, knows basic commands and does well on a leash. He is a very strong boy. He needs an owner that is familiar with Pit Bulls and will be able to understand him and love him unconditionally.Brody is now low heart worm positive and is being treated with monthly heart worm prevention, that should rid his heart completely of the infection by this year. Labs are not easy to photograph, they are either in constant movement or standing two feet away from you, Sarah has taught me this, among other things, like how nice it is to sit in the sun with a beautiful dog at your side, how fun it really is playing in the water hose, how peaceful a walk is with her by your side, She has a calm serenity that surrounds her, she is an amazing dog, Her story so sad, she was found on the side of a county road, barely able to walk, the pads of her feet burned and blistered and she was nothing but bones, she still walked up to me, slowly, in so much pain, wagging her tail.

Sarah is spayed, heart worm negative, current on all vaccinations, she is still gaining weight and should end up to be around 80 -90 pounds. Housebroken, likes to ride in the car and crate trained. She is currently housed at Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary. Sarah is a kind soft soul who needs a family to love her unconditionally and that is worthy of her.

Meet "Chrissy" the Min Pin/Staffordshire Terrier Mix

Chrissy got her name at Christmas, she was a Christmas Puppy, one of the Christmas puppies that ends up in the trash, she was found left by a dumpster in Meridian, Missisippi. She is a bubbly, bouncy, happy little girl, full grown at all of about 20 pounds, she runs and runs and plays with each dog here everyday, and has to say Hi to all of them, she is a sweet little dog, and would love her own family, she is about a year old now and full grown, She was originally in Mississippi with a rescue there that loved her very much but ran out of space for her and she had to go live in a boarding kennel untill we agreed to take her in here. She knows a lot of commands and listens very well, She is spayed, current on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. Chrissy is one of our Adoptable dogs!

"Bozo" the Adoptable Argentinian Mastiff

Bozo came from Los Angeles, California with 4 others that were found behind an abandoned house. Bozo is a big bozo! "Sarah" the Lab Mix

This dog was found on CR 1728 standing on the side of the road in the brush. She is so thin, I could see her bones from car lengths away. I stopped for her, and she walked slowly, limping and soaked from all the rain, up to my truck. I picked her up and placed her in the back seat. The pads on all four paws are blistered and burned off. She is literally bones when she should weigh well over a hundred pounds.She is now resting peacefully in a crate here at the Ranch in the house.

All I can offer her is food and safe haven, there are very little funds left here for emergency vet visits. Please donate anything you can to get her in and checked out.

"Bootsie" the Black Mouth Cur

Bootsie is another story of foreclosure. The ranch he lived on all his life was being taken by the bank, and his owners had to vacate. Unfortunately, they left Bootsie and his 12 other friends alone on the property. Somehow he lost his left eye, but gets around just fine.

Bootsie is a sweet, stocky little guy that has learned to smile again at his new ranch. He has the cutest personality and is used to other dogs so he gets along great with everyone here. He has a beautiful black brindle coat, short hair, and now, with a healthy diet, hardly even sheds. He rarely barks, and is very quiet and reserved.

We can tell Bootsie would love to be part of a family again. He jumps up and down when he sees any of us, he is so happy to be with people. He about 4 years old, is current on all vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. He is heart worm positive and being treated and on monthly prevention. He is very healthy and happy, and will steal your heart when you meet him.

"Arthur" the German Shepherd

This beautiful boy does not have life threatening injuries or broken bones or even open wounds, he is worn and starved and haggard from being left tied behind an abandoned house. He also tested high heart worm positive, so he needs further blood work done to determine any organ damage and he needs his heart checked for any damage as well. He also needs to be neutered and vaccinated.

He will need to be on special diets to get his weight and strength up and skin back in shape, his hair comes out in handfuls even after a hearty brushing. He is a mess, and we are trying to collect a few hundred in donations to get him started on his road to recovery.

Before we lose him to complications from the neglect and abandonment, please donate and help this boy have the life and dignity he deserves.

"Hooch" the Mastiff Mix

Hooch is a big goofy dog. He is never in a bad mood, and gets along great with the other dogs. That's unusual, not because of his breed, but because he is completely blind. Hooch maneuvers easily around the yard and kennels and can even play with his new friends here at the Ranch.

He was an inside dog and will only go to a home that can keep him inside and pampered. Hooch was dumped at the City of Houston Shelter, we do not know why, but the staff there loved him, and were sickened that his time was going to be up. He would have been euthanized had we not seen his plea for help. Hooch is a little underweight right now, but full grown, so he will appear even bigger once his weight comes back up. Right now he is 80 pounds.

Hooch also needs donations so he can have his eyes checked by a specialist so we can be certain that there is nothing that can be done to restore his sight. All donations for Hooch will be used for that purpose, and will be gratefully accepted.

He is neutered, heart worm negative and current on all his vaccinations, he is currently housed at Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary. Visitors are welcome by appointment to see Hooch.

"Hobo" the Australian Shepherd

Hobo is a sweet, playful Aussie shepherd that came to Dogtown from Waller County where a retired couple took him in with his buddy. They were wandering in the neighborhood, lost and hungry. Its hard to imagine that no one was looking for this beautiful dog!

He has an old injury he suffered before we found him that caused him to carry his front leg up. Now, because of disuse, he developed muscle atrophy in that shoulder and will need to be seen by a therapist to regain full use of his front leg. He runs and plays with the other dogs, but falls a lot. His Vet says with proper care and therapy his leg can function normally again. He is on Prevacox, a pain medication that helps him, but is not a permanent solution. He is house broken and crate trained. He loves kids and is a calm dog.

Hobo is a beautiful and amazing dog, and its not fair he has a disability that can be corrected, and cannot get the medical attention he needs because of lack of funds. We are accepting donations for Hobo, so he can get the physical therapy be needs to regain use of his leg again.

Hobo is housebroken, crate trained, very friendly with dogs and people, and has a very sweet disposition. He is also great in the house! He is a very social little guy and initiates play with the others. He is about 2 - 3years old, is neutered and micro-chipped, and is current on his vaccinations. Meet Baby!

Baby is a rescue horse that has been with Angela for over 23 years, since he was about 8 mos old. He was found running wild in the mountains by Springerville Arizona. When Angela went to look at him he was so scared and dirty with his mane and tail embedded with branches and knots. He was tied in a small coral with two ropes and the family dog sitting by his side. She promised him then that she would take care of him forever, and they grew up together from that day on. He has always liked dogs, since that was the first friend he ever knew.

Earlier this spring, he became very ill with pneumonia, and had to be hopitalized in the ICU unit at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital in in Navasota, TX. After a lot of time and effort in this state-of-the-art vet ICU, Baby came home and is doing very well.

He is a beautiful horse with a great personality and loves everyone, and is so patient with kids and the dogs. Thanks to those of you who helped with Baby's care!
